Do diesel particulate filter additives work?
Sadly, for the most part, claims that an additive can unblock a dpf are largely exaggerated. In truth, these additives often produce a misrepresentation of what they are actually doing, and in reality, they never come close to unblocking a dpf filter.
How long does DPF additive last?
around 70,000 miles
DPF additives A full tank of additive should last around 70,000 miles.
Does DPF damage engine?
Your DPF filter is designed to conduct exhaust fumes out of the car’s engine, so when it is blocked, these fumes cannot leave the engine as quickly. Not only will you be spending more on fuel, but the build up of fumes in your engine can cause severe damage to your engine.
How often should you use diesel fuel additive?
At least quarterly or as-needed: Add Clear-Diesel Fuel & Tank Cleaner to remove water, disperse contaminants and stabilize fuel for long-term storage.
Should I use diesel fuel additives?
If you bunker regularly in the Emission Controls Area’s (ECA), then a lubricity and deposit control additive should be used. Modern diesel in an ECA needs a lubricity additive which should be added by the supplier, most add the minimum, some don’t, so adding your own ensures the fuel system is protected.
Does diesel fuel additive work?
With an additive in the mix, your improved engine performance can lead to less carbon dioxide exhaust emissions. And, if your additive removes any buildup in your fuel system, this can also cut down on emissions. Better fuel efficiency. A diesel fuel additive actually works to reduce your car’s fuel consumption.
Can you drive with a blocked DPF?
Can you ignore the DPF light and carry on driving? Technically yes, but we would not recommend it. If you ignore the DPF light and continue driving, the build-up of soot will soon reach a point whereby your car has to enter ‘limp-home’ mode in order to prevent any damage to the engine.
Can you put too much diesel additive in?
You can easily add too much of a high-quality diesel fuel additive. Overdosing can lead to a whole new list of fuel and engine issues from clogged filters to overall decreased engine performance and efficiency. If you’re losing lubricity, don’t over-treat.
